So I’m finally getting around to posting some photos from our tip to Italy this summer. We went to Rome, Florence and Venice from late June and into July. We took tons of photos so I’m breaking it up into three blog posts for each city we went to. I wish I could show all the photos, but here’s just a quick look into the fun we had!!
The first city we went to while in Italy was Rome. We left Sacramento at 7:30am and then landed in Rome at 9am the next day with our feet running. Long story short we were up for around 37 hours straight before going to bed. We saw so much during our three-day stay in Rome and walked a ton. I think we ended up walking around 13-16 miles everyday. Also during the whole trip it was around 105 degrees everyday!! Which made all that walking a lot more fun
There’s so much to say and I don’t want to bore you, but all I can say is if you haven’t been you should go in the near future for sure!! Enjoy all the photos!!
Tech talk: I traveled light with camera gear and only brought a Canon 5d II with a 50mm 1.2 & 24mm 1.4, a Hasselblad 503 w/80mm 2.8 and a Canon S90 point & shoot.
This is why air travel in America sucks now days!! We got to sit in an airplane traffic jam for over an hour in Charlotte before our take off to Rome. This photo was taken from out our airplane window.

Hanging out in the Colosseum on our first day in Italy. I think we’re looking good for being up for around 26 hours at this point.

Eating our first Italian pizza. We had been up for around 34 hours straight at this point with no sleep, so I think any pizza would of taste great.

The Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, which was right in front of our hotel.
The view from the top of our hotel.

The Vatican and the Pope speaking!! We got lucky and walked up during his weekly address. He’s on top of the stairs in the photo, but you can see him in the bottom right of the photo on a TV screen.
Vatican museum & Sistine Chapel Entrance. It was about a 2 hour wait to get inside. Luckily we joined a tour in order to skip the line. It was well worth the money!!
Some stealth Sistine Chapel photos that I took with out getting thrown out!! It’s so amazing to see in person!!!

Some photos of inside the Vatican.

Christine and I inside the Vatican.

The Vatican at dusk

Just one more advantage of owning a Smart Car.
Happy to be in Rome melting away in the hot summer heat.

Piazza del Popolo and a great view of Rome.

The Spanish Steps at sunset.

Some local brushing his cat and rocking out to country music at the top of the Spanish Steps. A little crazy if you ask me!!

Throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain

We had a fun time riding the Metro, while in Rome. It sure helped out our legs a little.

Made one of those tracks on Rogers Ridge before it got all tracked out
Got some fresh tracks on the right photo, while all these people were waiting in line. Suckers!!!
Super happy to be skiing powder on the first day of my trip!!!
Looking miserable, but really stoked to be skiing knee deep powder in the storm!!!

My first tracks down a canyon on the face of chair 5.
Avalanches that went down the face of Mammoth after ski patrol bombed it.
